Our main goal for this service was to create an ecommerce style website which allows users to search and browse manufacturers ‘BIM objects’ and download them to use in their projects.

NBS National BIM Library is a recognised source for reliable BIM content which is authored to the NBS BIM Object Standard.

Previous site analysis

An extensive analysis was made to the existing website as a first step for this project. We detected opportunities to improve the majority of the site by opting to do a full redesign which would provide a more intuitive experience for the user.

User-led Workshops, paper prototyping and wireframing sessions

Using research gathered from our previous website, competitors and user feedback, I began creating wireframes which targeted the most necessary features needed for the website. This then moved into a stage of paper prototyping. We invited users into the business for a workshop where they interacted with the paper prototypes and drew their own wireframes highlighting what they thought was the highest priority for them.

Wireframes and prototypes

Several usability reviews and many iterations later I came up with the structure of each page and the user interaction flows. I used products such as InVision to prototype the wireframes so users and stakeholders could navigate through the potential designs.

Visual proposal

When we felt happy with the structure of the design, I then went into high fidelity designs making sure to keep them consistent throughout and adhering to brand guidelines.
